PRS Adopts IACS' Rules Requirements

On November 5, 2012 the PRS has adopted the International Association of Classification Societies’ (IACS) “Unified Requirements” (UR) and “Common Structural Rules” (CSR)

Just like the International Maritime Organization (IMO) international safety conventions whose purpose is to adopt a global international standard, the IACS is also promoting the
unification of class rules and standard of its member societies. It also encourages non-member societies like the PRS to do the same by embedding the “Unified Requirements” and “Common Structural Rules” into its own Rules.

Considering that the present PRS Rules already incorporate the IMO International Convention standard, the PRS also adheres to a uniform and common global classification society standard as exemplified by the IACS to help improve safety of life and property at sea and the protection of the marine environment.

Earlier the Technical Committee met several times and verified, reviewed and studied the IACS “Unified Rules Requirements”and finally recommended its adoption.

These “Unified Rules Requirements on Hull Classification Surveys of Ships would be suppletory to the present PRS Rules and is effective as of April 1, 2013.
