PRS celebrated its 25th founding Anniversary on 25 June 2014 with a modest lunch and blessing of its new office. In the board meeting that followed, President Procopio Vergel de Dios Jr. congratulated all the past and present members, trustees and officers for their invaluable contribution and unwavering commitment to the noble objective of assisting the government in the promotion of maritime safety and protection of the marine environment. He highlighted the fact that in those 25 years, none of the almost 1,000 vessels it classed were involved in any casualty that may be traceable to faulty classing. He attributed this to the company’s strict implementation of its class rules and processes embodied in its ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System.

Concluding, Atty. de Dios expressed the hope that the government will finally implement the Single National Classification Society policy to help prevent marine casualties happening as a result of cutthroat competition among existing accredited local class societies. With no competition around, he added that the financial resources of the class society will enable it to further improve its services and raise its level to its regional and international counterparts.
The celebration was capped by a courtesy call made by the PRS chairman and president to MARINA Administrator Maximo Q. Mejia Jr. and reminded the latter that:
(1) It was MARINA who initiated the project to establish a Philippine Classification Society;
(2) It was the Philippine Association of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (PANAME) who responded to that call and established the Philippine Register of Shipping, Inc.; and
(3) For twenty-five (25) years, it has despite competition classed almost 1,000 vessels with no casualty traceable to faulty classing.
