PRS passed the recently-concluded ISO 9001:2008 re-certification audit conducted last August 1, 2014 by the Global Certification Phils. Inc., the Philippine subsidiary of the Global Group of Companies based in the United Kingdom. No major nor minor non-conformances were noted, only “observations”. In ISO parlance, “observations” as opposed to “major” and “minor” non-conformances, are not violations of the ISO standards and processes. They have no direct or indirect consequential effect on the quality of the product or service. They are just comments made by the auditors with a view to improvement. The audit team is composed of four (4) auditors headed by no less than the certification company’s President, Capt. Renato B. Palomo.

In the ensuing meeting called by PRS President P. V. Vergel de Dios Jr., the latter thanked all the officers and staff for their continuing adherence to the ISO quality management standards and processes. He praised them for understanding the importance of a good quality management system not only in ensuring customer satisfaction but more so in promoting safety of life and property at sea. Not to be forgotten, he continued, is the fact that ISO QMS is a qualifying requirement for accreditation by the government (MARINA) as a local classification society.
Concluding, Atty. Vergel de Dios exhorted everybody to continue the good work to show the government that we deserve the honor of being chosen the single national classification society.
